Monrovia Football Academy is the first school in Liberia to combine High-quality education with elite football development.

Monrovia Football Academy provides Liberia's talented youth with academic classes, football training, and life skills lessons to improve academic performance, break down gender barriers, and prepare our students to lead positive change in Liberia. In the 2017-18 school year, we have 41 boys and 27 girls, ages 8-14, in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Our students are with us from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, with breakfast, life skills lessons, and football training in the morning, lunch at noon, and academic classes in the afternoon. We also hold academic classes on Saturday mornings.

The Academy currently operates in rented facilities, with football training held at BYC Field and Antoinette Tubman Stadium (corner of Lynch Street & UN Drive in Central Monrovia), and academic classes held in classrooms rented from Muslim Congress High School (Mechlin Street in Central Monrovia). We aim to move into our own residential facilities by September 2020.

The Academy is an independent nonprofit organization. We are not linked to any one academic institution, football club, political party, or ethnic origin. The Academy exists to prepare talented boys and girls to lead positive change in Liberia. We hope that you will join us!

Quality Education

We uniquely use football – the most popular sport in Liberia – as a positive-incentive mechanism to encourage our students to attend school and improve academic performance.

Professional Football Coaching

We deliver professional coaching and a comprehensive football curriculum that disrupts bad habits, introduces fundamental techniques, and encourages our student-athletes to "think the game" at a high level.

Gender Equality

We use education and football to break down gender barriers. By studying and training with the boys – and often outperforming them both in the classroom and on the pitch – our girls have a sense of empowerment that they themselves vocalize.

Good Nutrition

We ensure our student-athletes have balanced, nutrient-rich diets. On a daily basis, we provide a snack before training, classic Liberian meals for lunch, and water throughout the day.

Life Skills

Academic classes and football practices are supplemented with life skills lessons on a daily basis. 'Life skills' is a vague concept, but we focus on four key, culturally-relevant areas: leadership, enthusiasm, accountability, and discipline (LEAD).

Healthcare

Each of our staff members is insured through Activa Liberia, while our student-athletes receive on-site treatment from our medic, Agnes Togbah. Moving forward, we are exploring options to insure each of our student-athletes at a reputable clinic near the Academy.
